Cassettes & Concealed Mini Split Systems

Cassettes & Concealed Mini Split Systems

We preach the benefits of ductless mini splits to all our customers, here at ComfortUp, as they are an optimal heating and cooling option for all situations. They have recently seen an increase in popularity in the United States, and for good reason; they offer countless benefits and advantages over other options such as central HVAC systems.

For example, their lack of ductwork means they are very efficient and waste little to no energy during use. This leads to noticeable savings on your energy bill. They are also versatile, as they have both heating and cooling capabilities. Additionally, they act as air purifiers, filters, and dehumidifiers to increase the air quality in your home.

Ceiling Cassettes

Ceiling cassette mini splits are named for their resemblance to cassette tapes. With a ceiling cassette, air is transferred from an outdoor compressor to the cassette-lookalike indoor air handling unit, and then dispersed throughout the room. Many prefer cassette models because they are very inconspicuous and hardly noticeable because of their location on the ceiling. There are even recessed models available, which are virtually flat against the ceiling. Therefore, they do not detract from the room’s aesthetic like other air conditioners.

Slim Duct Mini Splits

Slim duct mini splits are optimal for tight spaces where a normal-sized mini split does not fit. In fact, many of the indoor slim ducts weigh less than one pound. Like ceiling cassettes, they are very inconspicuous and hardly noticeable when installed and in use. They are also so quiet that you’ll have no idea they are even running.

Concealed Mount Mini Splits

Concealed mount mini splits are perfect for commercial or residential properties that are tight on wall space. They have an easy installation process and sit in ceilings in rooms or closets. Their concealed installation coupled with silent operation makes them virtually unnoticeable during operation. However, concealed ducts must be installed in a conditioned space to operate effectively.

Universal Floor/Ceiling Mount Options

Ductless mini splits are known for their versatility, as certain models can be suspended from the ceiling or rest on the floor. Like other models, these are optimal in buildings lacking wall space. Many commercial properties such as restaurants and offices opt for universal floor/ceiling mounted ductless mini splits.

Most, if not all, of these options are available in single or multi zone systems. A single-zone system consists of one outdoor compressor connected to one indoor ductless mini split. This allows you to control the temperature in the room or “zone” where the indoor unit is physically located. A multi-zone system consists of one outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units.

Some systems can have up to eight ductless mini splits connected to the same outdoor unit. A multi-zone system allows you to control the temperature in each zone individually without affecting the others. These are ideal for commercial or residential properties with different rooms or levels, and they make thermostat wars a thing of the past.

Now that you’ve read about the different types of ductless mini splits and their countless benefits, you’re ready to purchase one for yourself!  However, we advise against installing your new ductless mini split yourself. In many cases, self-installation leads to countless problems with the performance and efficiency of the system. It can also void the warranty, which leads to paying out of pocket for costly repairs and even replacement, should something go awry. Reach out to a professional HVAC technician in your area for all your installation and maintenance needs.
